OpenAI seeks to one-up Anthropic with new customer privacy protections
OpenAI has announced a new service called Private Safety Processing to monitor for AI misuse without retaining customer data.
This move is designed to counter Anthropic's recent policy, which retains user data for 30 days for specific high-capability models.
The new system uses automated agents to analyze inputs and outputs across multiple sessions, allowing for long-horizon safety monitoring.
Unlike standard Zero Data Retention policies that focus on single sessions, this technology can detect malicious patterns spread across different conversations.
OpenAI states that if abuse is detected, the system sends a narrowly defined signal rather than exposing raw data to human reviewers.
This approach aims to balance enterprise privacy concerns with the need for robust safety guardrails against evolving threats.
